Manitu Mental Muscle is a guided relaxation using gentle movement and visualization to help facilitate the release of emotional stress and relief from physical pain. This one-hour chair relaxation addresses tension to ignite self-awareness that leads to a fresh sense of wellbeing. No preparation needed.
As an actor and teacher, I learned the importance of having an open relaxed instrument through the practice of sensory work taught as part of Stanislovski’s Method of acting. Additionally, as a young woman with crippling rheumatoid arthritis, I discovered it is critical to be aware of the mind/body connection, how one plays into the other. At the Gladman Center in Berkley, an institute devoted to exploring the mental and emotional side of chronic and terminal illness, I was introduced to the practice of guided visualization. This form of self-hypnosis was developed to aid those who are suffering in acknowledge and unlocking emotional and mental pain that gets trapped inside of muscles, causing stress that can lead to a worsening of symptoms or contribute to the escalation of disease. I found that the combination of sensory relaxation used by actors to open their instrument and guided visualization to address and ease mind/body pain works wonders to calm and refresh anyone living in today’s tumultuous universe. Mental/Muscle is an approach to mental and physical well-being that benefits everyone, in any life situation, in good or poor health, in joyful or stressful times.
